After bagging the highest first day, beating Akshay Kumar's AIRLIFT (as informed in our Saturday box-office update), Shah Rukh Khan's FAN has turned out to be the highest opening weekend grosser of the year 2016.
As per the details, FAN put up a good show during Saturday and Sunday (despite tough competition from THE JUNGLE BOOK), and ended up netting well over 50 crore during the opening weekend from India. Once again FAN beats the previous best weekend of the year, Akshay Kumar's AIRLIFT by about 7 crore.
This is quite a good performance considering the fact that the Maneesh Sharma directed FAN is certainly a very league se hatke film as it is totally out of SRK's comfort zone. No slapstick or any sort of comedy, light moments, songs, romance, or trademark SRK clichéd family drama.
In fact FAN is amongst the few unconventional films that SRK has starred in after achieving super-stardom. The only two other films that come to mind are SWADES and CHAK DE INDIA, both of which were quite a while back!
As far as the overseas is concerned, FAN is on a good run grossing nearly $6.50m during the opening weekend (15-17 April), which means that producer Yash Raj Films must be laughing all the way to the bank (being the worldwide distributors too!), with nearly 60 percent of the 105 crore (all inclusive cost) having already been recovered via non-theatrical rights.
