In a vast industry like Bollywood, every actor/star or filmmaker wants to carve his own niche. After spending a considerable time in this highly volatile industry, every actor strives to create an image for himself and aims to develop expertise in a specific genre. So certainly the handsome hunk of Bollywood John Abraham is also no exception.
If we go by the trend of his last few films and also his upcoming ventures, John has been deliberately venturing into ‘action' space. FORCE, RACE 2, SHOOTOUT AT WADALA, MADRAS CAFé, ROCKY HANDSOME, all the flicks tried to explore John's ‘angry man' side. Even two of his upcoming films DISHOOM and FORCE 2, sequel to FORCE, are action-packed outings. It looks like John is now concentrating on this genre and wants to establish himself as the ‘action king' of Bollywood.
But is it really working for the star? Let's check out. Though MADRAS CAFé garnered good reviews and it even did some business, but it was Shoojit Sircar's direction and concept that was lapped up instead of John's action. Even SHOOTOUT AT WADALA, in which John played a mafia don, tanked at BO and the star didn't even win any accolades for his portrayal. RACE 2 being multi-cast film and also the fact that it had the stamp of franchise RACE; John couldn't individually make a mark. FORCE, an average affair, rather turned out beneficial for newbie Vidyut Jammwal than John Abraham.
Even the latest release ROCKY HANDSOME, which was en cashing on the brand name of Hollywood action king Sylvester Stallone (since he has been known for his films ROCKY and RAMBO), also sank without a trace. Though John must have deemed it to have done some wonders considering its title and its entire packaging, the film didn't enhance John's action image or fulfill his implicit desire to be known as the Indian Sylvester Stallone!
One may wonder, why John's incessant efforts to become the ‘action jackson' of Bollywood is going in vain, then let us tell you what we feel which even you may agree down the line. Well, John's got everything from hot bod to good looks but somehow his persona of a cover-page-model overpowers his image of an actor.
John is indeed ‘handsome' but not ‘rocky' (referred to denote action)! Looks like, he is treading on a wrong path or the star needs to re-strategize.
