After making her Bollywood debut with P SE PM TAK, Meenakshi Dixit is now seen as Randeep Hooda's love interest in LAAL RANG. In an interview with us, the actress spoke about how she got the movie, her experience on sets, with Randeep, her future plans and more.
Here are some excerpts from the interview:
Tell us about your character...
She's a medical student who's going to be a doctor. A very confident, today's girl, but she's a small town girl who belongs to a very good family and is very close to her parents, who are above all for her. I can relate to this character very much personally because this is how we've been brought up. It's a very on-the-edge, layered character and quite a challenging role for me because it's got be real and she's madly and deeply in love with Randeep, but at the same time respects her family above all. She's in a dilemma always about whether to listen to her parents or go for the love of her life, because in Karnal, the family is someone who takes all decisions.
You were seen in P SE PM TAK, which was a very different character than LAAL RANG. So how do you think will people take this character now?
I think they'll take it beautifully because honestly many people may not have seen P SE PM TAK, but everybody would've seen the trailer and I can say my character is complete opposite from that. That character is very loud and completely something I'm not and cannot be. It was another challenge, but people have appreciated that character. This is like a 360 degree turnover. My character in LAAL RANG is absolutely subtle, very soft in the way she deals with things or comments on them.
What made you take up this film?
I had met Afzal while he was doing YOUNGISTAAN. He was keen on casting me for a role & I had auditioned for it. But somehow that didn't work out, still he said he'd love me for another role. He came back to me with this role and I was up for it.
How was your experience?
I loved and will always remember the experience. Afzal is one person who needs to work in a real space. The entire film is shot without make-up. We reached the set and used to go for a shot within 15 minutes. I felt like I was on a Hollywood set. He belongs to the young set of directors and it's always great to work with people with fresh ideas.
'Salman Khan looks too sincere to me, would love to work with him'
Tell us about your chemistry with Randeep...
Because Randeep is such a polished actor, your performance flows with him. You will see that brilliant chemistry in 'Bawri Poonch'. I felt really comfortable and didn't really have to do anything. So I think we share a great chemistry as co-actors.
Is your character inspired by someone?
It's just too real and can be inspired by anyone. We've not tried to fictionalize, glorify it and make it look extraordinary. Shankar's character is little larger than life but everybody else is real.
One Bollywood actor you'd like to work with?
Salman Khan. He just looks too sincere.
Apart from acting, is there something else you'd like to do?
I've never thought about that, but I've been a brilliant dancer. I can sing. I've been an athlete. Acting is part of, not my personality. There's a lot more to me. I love cooking, doing interiors, anything that's creative and brings a layer to myself. Maybe I can bring in my abilities being an actor itself - maybe play a singer or dancer in a movie. But acting is something that's going to be consistent. Everything else comes and goes.
If you have to portray a sports personality on screen, which would it be?
Your upcoming projects?
There are a couple of things, but I'd like the film announcement to happen on its time.
