Known for playing gangster roles in previous films, actor Pankaj Tripathi for a change is seen essaying the positive character in the lately released NIL BATTEY SANNATA that of a school principal. While the Swara Bhaskar has won many brownie points for her brave portrayal of a maid and a mother, who goes to any extent to fulfill her dream (that of turning her daughter into a doctor or engineer), Pankaj Tripathi has also wowed everyone with his performance.
His journey in films started with Abhishek Bachchan starrer RUN and now after completing more than a decade in Bollywood, Pankaj Tripathi sums up NIL BATTEY SANNATA as his story.
He says, “My journey has been good so far. Somehow the concept of NIL BATTEY SANNATA to a great extent tells my story. The film focusses on fulfilling your dreams come what may. It gives out the message that if you stay focused and passionate, then your dreams will come true one day. Some people may ridicule and laugh on your dream, while some others will support it. I hail from a place where we don't even have a cinema hall. But still I dreamt of becoming an actor and today I am here for around 17 years.”
Ask how he dealt or rather beat all the struggles that came his way to reach where he is today and he shares, “There is a dialogue in the film NIL BATTEY SANNATA ‘Tumahre Raahon Mai Bahut Sari Adchane Ayengi Bahut Problems Ayengi Par Harna Mat Unse, Muh Mat Modna' (you will face tremendous problems and hurdles on your way to accomplish your dream but never ever give up), which gives the answer. Similarly, when I came to Mumbai, I didn't even know whom to approach, where to go. I wasn't even aware of the producers' offices. I was not even familiar with the lanes of Mumbai. But I dreamt fearlessly, my conviction was pure and strong. All I knew was my acting craft because I am a trained actor. So, I knew one fine day my talent will be recognized, someone would give me that big break. And today I am happy wherever I am.”
But probe him who was the one to trust his craft and he blatantly says, “There's nobody like that in this industry. In fact in any industry. We are in a profession where nobody would come to you to give that chance. The break that I got must have also been because I deserved that. Unless you deserve nobody would offer you anything.”
He adds, “Nobody sympathizes with you. It's a very professional phase that we are living in today. This industry is crowded with people, in fact today it's a competitive world and you can't identify in one go who is talented.”
However, Pankaj later reveals that how people like Mukesh Chhabra (a renowned casting director) trusted his caliber and even fought with a maverick filmmaker like Anurag Kashyap. “There are many people who stood by me right at the beginning of my career. People like Mukesh Chhabra, who happens to be the casting director of NIL BATTEY SANNATA also, fought for me with Anurag Kashyap. He went ahead and recommended me for GOW saying that I am perfect fit for the character of ‘Sultan'. But Anurag wasn't confident with my audition. However, Anurag went by Mukesh's strong conviction. So my only point is, if you have talent it certainly favours you, rest all depends on time factor.”
We truly buy your point Pankaj and applaud your perseverance to achieve your dream!
