The latest update on the film is that, the Revisiting Committee of the Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has passed the film after a four month wait.
By dramatizing the real life story of a family, 31ST OCTOBER, directed by National award winning filmmaker Shivaji Lotan Patil, is a close depiction of one of the darkest days in Indian history.
Producer Harry, who had to make some modifications, says, "It took time but we were eventually able to convince the Censor Board to retain the scenes which brought out the realism of the story and which were important to the narrative. There's a reason for bringing this subject to the screen and justice needs to be done to the subject."
The producer admits that many of the scenes depicting violence and bloodshed had to be edited. “I took nine major cuts. The censors insisted that some of the scenes and dialogue could instigate a particular community so needed to be toned down. The Revising Committee made us re-submit the film several times, trimming down scenes that they had issues with by six to seven minutes. All verbal abuses have been beeped, even something as common as 'saala' on several instances," he added.
31ST OCTOBER is an edge-of-the-seat thriller based on the aftermath of Indira Gandhi's assassination by her two Sikh bodyguards, which completely shook the political scenario of the country.
Produced by Magical Dreams Productions Pvt. Ltd and Harry Sachdeva and directed by Shivaji Lotan Patil, 31ST OCTOBER stars Soha Ali Khan and Vir Das in the lead roles.
