Ganesh Chaturthi is round the corner. While everyone is gearing up for the festivity in their traditional way and/or respective ways, actor Riteish Deshmukh has come up with sarcastic, message-driven rap song #ThankGodBappa.
Yes, Riteish is seen doing rap for the first time, although in Marathi. But well, this is not just another attention-grabbing Bollywood special number or a movie song; it is a hard-hitting take on so-called devotees' psyche and behaviour, the way people ring in the festival.
Riteish coolly takes a dig at the current system and hypocrite mentality of the masses by stating that ‘Thank God Bappa Aapla Sarkha Nasto'. He uses various instances to make the point and you would undeniably agree to it. And the best line throughout the video comes like this ‘Toh Fasto, Toh Hasto Tarihi Toh Aaplya Mude Yeun Parat Basto, Thank God Bappa Aaplya Sarkha Nasto' (lord Ganesha smiles cute, gets cheated, but next year he is again ready to visit our places with same gusto. Thank God he is not like us.)
Riteish forthrightly highlights the facts in a very tongue-in-cheek manner. The striking lyrics, foot-thumping beats and Riteish's act make the video completely watchable and relatable. Last but not the least, on a serious note, Riteish also brings to our notice how after celebrating the festival on a grand scale, we give a damn post Visarjan (immersion) of Ganesha idol, that is lonely scattered on the shores in broken pieces.
Well after catching up with the rap song, indeed even we say ‘Thank God Bappa Aaplya Sarkha Nasto!'
The video is produced by Genelia D'souza Deshmukh and directed by Kapil Sawant.
