Nida Fazli, the brilliant Urdu poet and film lyricist, who passed away recently, was one of the few film lyricists of Bollywood whose poetry had the prowess to heal the wounds of many. His poetry like that of Bollywood's legendary lyrists Sahir Ludhianvi and Shailendra could melt the heart of listeners and infuse optimism to live life courageously despite grief and sorrow.

An example of his motivation poetry was none other but the King of Ghazal - eminent ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh.
In an interview Jagjit Singh had candidly confided that it was his friend and talented poet Nida Fazli's heartrending poetry that brought him out from the melancholy of his son's unfortunate car accident.
“After the catastrophic death of my son Vivek, who just 19 years, in a road accident in Mumbai, I was so grief stricken that I had lost all my interest in music. I had literally locked myself in my room and bid adieu from music for six months!” informed Jagjit Singh.
He added, “But one day I when I was reading a collection of poems penned by Nida Fazli, I came across the soul stirring ghazal …..
Apna gham le ke kahin aur na jaaye jaye
Ghar mein bikhri hui cheezon ko sajaaya jaye
(We should not take our suffering around
Instead we must arrange scattered things and make our home beautiful)
The undercurrent of the poem is that instead of crying over our sorrows it is better to divert attention and focus on other constructive things and serve society. The poem touched my soul so much that I decided to make a comeback and give my best to the society.”
Like Jagjit Singh there are millions whose lives have been changed listening to the inspirational and motivational poems of Nida Fazli. Today Fazli may be no more but his poems and lyrics will keep motivating generations to come.
