Sagar Sarhadi - the veteran writer of Bollywood classic romancers like KABHIE KABHIE starring Amitabh Bachchan, Waheda Rehman, Sashi Kapoor, Rakhee, Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh, and the director of the cult classic BAZAAR, will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the second edition of the International Film Festival of Prayag (IFFP).

The recognition comes late for a distinguished talent like Sarhadi who got the coveted Film Fare for Yash Chopra directed KABHIE KABHIE as a screen writer, but surprisingly his stark and thought proving brilliance in BAZAAR went unnoticed in the awards galore. The movie highlighted the issue of bride buying in India, the plight of young girls being sold by needy parents to wealthy emigrants in the Gulf.

BAZAAR had Bollywood's rare talent Smita Patil in a stellar performance. A few years back it was learnt that producer Sunil Bohra was pursuing the idea of remaking BAZAAR and was in talks with Sarhadi. However Sagar was against the sequel of his renowned work initially but when Smita Patil's son Prateik was said to be casted in the film, the writer gave a second thought. The news on the remake status is being awaited.

Known for not compromising on skills for money, Sagar Sarhadi went into a self-imposed exile for quite some time. In 2013 he made a comeback as a screenwriter in CAHUSAR featuring national award winners Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Amruta Subhash (Best Supporting Actress for Marathi film ASTU in 2013). CAHUSAR spoke about women exploitation in rural and urban India, the movie is yet to release in theatres.

The award ceremony will be held from February 26 to 28. Last year, veteran actor Om Puri was felicitated with this award.

Sagar Sarhadi has also written the screenplay of DOOSARA ADMI, Shah Rukh Khan's first release DEEWANA and he also wrote the dialogues of CHANDNI, and Hrithik Roshan's debut KAHO NAA… PYAAR HAI.
