With the news of Bollywood actress Vidya Balan declining the offer to reprise the role of Sridevi from SADMA (which is till date considered her finest performance in the classic that starred Kamal Haasan alongside), it not only sent a ‘Sadma' (shock wave) in the industry but even her dearest hubby Siddharth Roy Kapur, who heads UTV Disney, was taken back.
When Siddharth returned to his abode after a hectic day, he at once poked wifey Vidya Balan, “Vidu darling (as he fondly calls) what am I hearing?” Vidya interrupted in wonder, “What?” However, Siddharth continued, “I heard that you declined the offer of playing one of the dynamic roles - that of reprising Sridevi's role in SADMA.” Vidya responded, “Yes, my love you heard it right.”
Siddharth further quizzed Vidya, “But why did you reject such a tempting offer? Sridevi's award-winning performance in SADMA is till date counted her best and by playing that role it would have given you the much needed hit (after back-to-back flops for a while now) and probably it would have regained your lost glory.” To which Vidya initially answered, “I don't think I'll be able to do justice to Sridevi's remarkable performance in the film.”
“And why do you think so?” Siddharth popped the question immediately to his Vidu darling.
But Vidya was quick to add, “Well, you see I have already played ‘Silk Smitha' in the film THE DIRTY PICTURE. And now I am known as ‘Silk'. People address me as ‘Silk'. And SADMA interestingly starred ‘Silk Smitha' also in a very a sensuous role. So, now if I play the role of Sridevi, people won't be able to relate to it,” THE DIRTY PICTURE star gets witty by citing the popular dialogues from her film, “Main Silk hoon, Silk ... koi film nahin joh interval ke baad badal jaoongi. Dikhana wahi chahiye ... joh log dekhana chahte hai. Kuch logo ka naam unke kaam se hota hai ... mera badnaam hoker hua hai.”
Vidya finally adds with a wink, “Filmein sirf teen cheezo ke wajah se chalti hai ... entertainment, entertainment, entertainment ... aur main entertainment hoon”
“Indeed, you are ENTERTAINMENT overloaded sweetheart. Oh La La, Oh La La Tu Hai Meri Fantasy!” Siddharth concludes on an amusing note.
