From being not even close to acquaintances, Pulkit Samrat and Yami Gautam have turned lovers on screen for not one, but 2 movies – SANAM RE as well as JUNOONIYAT.
With their release SANAM RE coming closer, the two have been promoting their movie together and we got a chance to interact with them together, which was too much fun! Check it out…
How's your journey been?
Yami: It's been very long. I say that because we've covered really long journeys to reach our destination throughout the movie because of the locations we had.
Pulkit: I would agree. It's been a really long journey especially in the 7 days because now we're so excited to show the film to people. These last days seem to be the longest times, because the release is coming closer.
Yami, you said that you wore summer clothes in winter and vice versa. Was there a particular reason for doing so?
Maybe something called kismat. The styling was such. When we were expecting summer in Ladakh, it was winter by the time we landed to a particular place. I had never seen a weather like Gangtok lake. You can't even walk fast there. Actually I had no idea how I shot there. When we were shooting in Mumbai, it was 46 degrees here and that had to be the only time I had to wear layers of sweaters, mufflers and all.
Pulkit: Even worse. I had to take off my shirt when it was minus 9 degrees, and then I had to wear at least 3 layers of woolen jackets in Mumbai. It was tough, but the end result of it was something that kept us going.
'I had to take off my shirt when it was minus 9 degrees'
What changed so much since your first music video that now we see your chemistry in SANAM RE?
P: 5 years ago, we never spoke when shooting for that romantic music video. We spoke on the last day in the last shot and our talks were like – ‘Hi, I'm Pulkit. Yami. It's so nice to meet you. Same here. I used to watch your show, it was interesting. Yeah, really, great, thank you, nice meeting you, bye bye.'
Y: You forgot that you even called me Khadoos at that time.
P: Yeah. So if you don't speak during the 2 days time, one will call the other khadoos only na?
Y: Even you could've said hello.
P: But then there needs to be an eye contact also na? If a person doesn't look at you, how can you say hello? *After a fun fight* But it was a revelation when I met her now. We started shooting JUNOONIYAT before shooting for SANAM RE. That is when we met and started working together. She's got a great sense of humour.
Y: I don't remember any ice-breaking session as such between us. I think the demand of the characters was such that we spoke to each other. We did a lot of workshops with the directors simultaneously.
P: What workshops? We are foodies, so used to discuss food.
Y: He would just discuss. I would demonstrate.
Yami, both the movies you've done - VICKY DONOR and BADLAPUR, have become a rage in their time. So do you think SANAM RE will face the same fate?
I hope so. I pray very hard that it does because there is nothing best in India than a love story. We Indians, who are very emotional people, adore love. Even if you ask a common man his/her 5 favourite films, he will name at least 3 love stories. SANAM RE is very much today's film. Of course, the concept must be old, classic and soulful, but the presentation is totally contemporary. That's how we connect to the current generation. I think the songs and trailer are already a rage.
