That film industry is highly bugged with Censor Board's weird ways, is we all know. Everyone has expressed their grudge against CBFC and its not-so prudent decisions (as per the industrywallahs) at different time intervals in their respective styles. While SHAHID maker Hansal Mehta went on to say that he would rather sell underwear than use CBFC chief Pankaj Nihalani's name for publicity and that Censor is behaving like a homophobic society. Eminent filmmakers like Mahesh Bhatt, Sudhir Mishra, Hansal Mehta, Kamal Swaroop, Ajay Bahl, producer Guneet Monga, Vasan Bala along with the TITLI director and producer teamed up for a fun video on Censors. Whereas, the revolutionary filmmaker like Anurag Kashyap had entered into a legal battle with Censors for his film UGLY.

And now filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, going a step ahead, has teased the Censor Board in the most ‘uncensored' way. Where other filmmakers openly ranted against Censors, RGV subtly, silently yet in his quirky style, took a dig at CBFC. As Ramu announced about his short film debut with SINGLE X, he cheekily presented a provocative poster on a micro-blogging site.
However, he at once mentioned that he is dedicating SINGLE X to Censors. RGV wrote, “I am going to dedicate my #RGVtalkies release debut film 'Single X' to the Censor Board. My interest in digital space is, I don't need to restrict content for censor purposes nd feature length requirements. RGV talkies will not restrict to only films made by me but it will release films made by anyone suiting my taste.”
But is Ramu really even affected to write about Censors? Is his target to join the bandwagon and also make comments on the Censors much like his counterparts from the industry? Well, it certainly doesn't appear to be. If he actually meant to run down Censors, he could have done it much earlier, as we know how vocal Ramu is about his viewpoints every now and then. Well, the filmmaker has very strategically used the internet medium. While Ramu says it with élan that he doesn't need to censor his content on digital space, our question to him - does he need to enlighten the fact that has been known to one and all for ages and that is very much obvious?
Basically, the filmmaker has pretty smartly encashed on the ongoing ‘Censor tamasha' to introduce (rather market) his online channel that is set to churn out short films.
But did the filmmaker achieve his desired reaction, that to shock and stun everyone? Of course yes. And did Ramu gain the credibility of being a maverick filmmaker? Well, certainly not. Being an ardent fan of Ramu's style of cinema, we feel the filmmaker may have succeeded in grabbing attention (which he is popularly known for) but to us he has lost the aura of being the ‘Ram Gopal Varma'! When a filmmaker like Ram Gopal Varma stoops down to this extent, it makes us wonder is he the same person who delighted us with some great works like COMPANY, SATYA, SARKAR, RANGEELA, SHIVA, PHOONK, BHOOT, etc in the past and when we waited with bated breath to check out his films on the celluloid.
Well, Ramu this is not you. We are still waiting for the real old Ramu to stand up and once again blow us away with his edgy style of cinema.
