The Osama from TERE BIN LADEN, Pradhuman Singh has turned actor-writer for TERE BIN LADEN: DEAD OR ALIVE, and the actor has humour written all over him!
Here are some excepts from the interview:
What do you think made TERE BIN LADEN: DEAD OR ALIVE a sleeper hit?
It so happened because it was a very unique concept and was in your face. It had a Bin Laden speak in Punjabi. How many times do you hear that? So I think that's what just took people by surprise and captured their imagination. People are starved to watch good films. So whenever, irrespective of how small the launch or release might be, if it's a good film, people will go and watch it.
Do you believe TERE BIN LADEN: DEAD OR ALIVE has the elements of it?
It has, and the trailer too has had some unpredictable response. We've tried to make it wackier and funnier, but also keeping the sensibilities alive. So it's a mad comedy, but we aren't acting like mad people. Everything happening in the film is realistic – it's based on true events. So we've tried to keep the same essence of a satire and it's about a conspiracy on whether Osama is dead or not.

After playing Osama in two movies, do you think people will be able to accept you in another character?
Yeah, because people don't even know who I am without the beard. It's funny that I could be launched as a completely new actor because nobody knows me till I don't put the beard.
People came to know about you a little late. You got popular only after TERE BIN LADEN...
I'm hoping this film brings about a change and I get a little more work. Once I get that work, I want to do slightly different characters where I can actually show my face to the audience.
You have become type casted as Osama Bin Laden. So how do you plan to change that image?
I don't know how to convince someone that I can do something else. The only way I know of is by giving auditions. I think somebody has to have confidence in me and think about me in another role, and I'm waiting for that.
Any plans to direct or produce a movie?
Why not direct? I'm a writer. If I write a script and somebody thinks I should direct it, I will. I definitely want to direct a film, but need to be mentally prepared for it. I am prepared even now, but need to have a great concept. I'm almost on the verge of locking a particular concept which I'll write and direct, but don't know when will that happen.
