The director who has launched a good list of actress that include Priyanka Chopra along with Zarine Khan, Ameesha Patel, Divya Kumar Khosla, Urvashi Rautela is confident and buzzing with positive air.
In a candid chit chat, Anil Shrama talks about his future plans, the launch of his son, GENIUS and confesses that pressure is more on him than his son.
Here are the excerpts:
Why is 14 July so auspicious?
I am from Mathura and July is very important for ‘Mathurawasis' (people from Mathura). Shraavan begins from July and mostly the festival of Janmashtami (the birth of Lord Krishna) falls during this period.
My father KC Sharma launched me as a director on this day. My daughter Kairvina was also born on the same day. When I decided to launch Utkarsh, my father suggested, in fact directed me to do the needful on the same day.
Since I was planning something special for Utkarsh, we decided to make the announcement today. I'm planning to start shooting in November.
You have worked with Mr. Bachchan, Dharmendra, Sunny Deol etc. As a director what makes you confident about Utkarsh?
I was not considering Utkarsh for the role of Sunny Deol's son Charanjeet (Jeete) in GADAR: EK PREM KATHA, but my wife Suman, Ameesha and even Sunny suggested that I cast him.
Utkarsh refused but when I told him that he has to do it in order to help his father as we are not getting the right choice for the role he agreed.
Utkarsh is trained at The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute. His strength lies in his sincerity and originality with which he thinks of enacting his scenes, he has studied the art of filmmaking in US.
So what will be the genre/theme of yours and your sons dream on screen?
The title is GENIUS and it's different from all that I've made before. It's a story of a guy with high IQ. The caption will go like ‘Dil ki ladaai, dimaag se' this is all what I can say now. GENIUS is inspired by all the mythological and inspirational stories from India.
Children like Utkarsh are lucky to be born in the family of film fraternity and get a dream launch, what anxiety does it create in the minds of aspiring wannabes from small towns who have minimum exposure to this world and what pressure does it puts on you?
Yeah you have a point. But see you have to make your way, create a mark, grab the opportunity. I have come from a small town. Shah Rukh Khan is an outsider, Mr. Bachchan came from Allahabad, so ultimately it's the talent that will stay. I don't see any wrong in a doctors son becoming a doctor or the child of an architect following his/her father's path. Similarly kids from the film fraternity are born and brought up in the environment and yes they get the chance initially.
On the contrary, Utkarsh feels more pressure and says the pressure is on him. I am not the one who will launch his son just for the sake of it. Some may have done it.
GENUIS has a lot at stake for director Anil Sharma then debutant Utkarsh.
I am in the industry for more than thirty years now and am launching Utkarsh because I believe in his talent. I hope the ‘Jeete' from GADAR: EK PREM KATHA gets the same love and affection in GENIUS.
