The hit comedy series that started in 2006 starring Ajay Devgn has its inspirations from all corners and the latest installation was allegedly copy of 2013 Tamil black comedy SOODHU KAVVUM directed by Nalan Kumarasamy starring Vijay Sethupathi and Sanchita Shetty in the lead.
According to reports, Rohit Shetty has denied the fourth installment to be inspired from the Tamil film, instead it will have an original story contrary to its previous three installments.
However we are more amazed by this revelation by Rohit Shetty who has happily maroed (read copied) plays/films in Gujarati, Marathi and Hindi for the series.
Starting with GOLMAAL : FUN UNLIMITED in 2006 starring Ajay Devgn in lead, the movie was based on the Gujarati play AFLATOON by Mihir Bhuta adapted from Harsh Shivsharan's original Marathi play GHAR - GHAR.
Its sequel GOLMAAL RETURNS was inspired by 1989 Marathi film PHEKA PHEKI starring Ashok Saraf and Laxmikant Berde, which had similarities with the 1973 Hindi film AAJ KI TAAZA KHABAR.
The third installment in 2010 - GOLMAAL 3 drew its inspiration from Basu Chatterjee's 1978 KHATTA MEETHA starring Ashok Kumar in lead which itself was based on the 1968 movie YOURS, MINE and OURS.
Well its striking to find that Rohit has decided to turn original with the fourth installment but we wonder how will Mr. Shetty control his instincts to get inspired by the pot boilers of the 80's and 90's. BOL BACHCAN was the rehash of Hrishi da's 1979 cult GOLMAAL. CHENNAI EXPRESS is SRK's DDLJ restructured in Rohit Shetty ishtyle and DILWALE is a collage of all that Bollywood masala has offered..
We hear Ajay Devgn has loved the script and hope the ‘original' talk is original and not just a BOL BACHCHAN.
