A small but beautiful film, BHOURI, is all set to hit the screens this Friday. Directed by Jasbir B Bhati (KKUSUM of small screen fame), who had also helmed the hard hitting UVAA, just last year.
To know about the film and his inspiration, we caught up with Jasbir, who told us, “You know it is a film that is set around an eenth bhatta (brick kiln), where there are about 100-150 labourers (on an average). Bhouri, our protagonist is one of them. She is called manhoos (one who brings bad luck), as two kids before her have died.
The villagers decide to get her married to a TB inflicted 55 year old Raghuveer Yadav, hoping that if not TB, Bhouri's bad luck would kill him. The reason is very simple; so that the entire village would exploit her later, being the widow of a poor (gharib ki vidhwa, poore gaon ki bhabi!). However, that is not how it turned to be as fate had something else in store!”
Revealing the inspiration, he told us, ”You know I was shooting this serial for Balaji, when I heard the news that an entire village of 450 people in South Africa, had aids! That is the concept I have incorporated. To give it the authentic feel, I have shot BHOURI at actual locations in Gorakhpur. The film will be known for it's performances,” concludes Jasbir!
