Does MIRZYA trailer ring a bell about RANG DE BASANTI format?

The first trailer of MIRZYA, introducing Anil Kapoor's son Harshvardhan Kapoor and Saiyami Kher, niece of Tanvi Azmi, released today. While the Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra helmed project has been appreciated for its visually-appealing scenes, the narrative and storyline of the film (at least going by the trailer) has left everyone bemused! While some are attributing it to be a reincarnation story, others are calling it an epic love story. It appears vague to many, but at the hindsight it seems MIRZYA trailer does hint what it would eventually offer us.

MIRZYA AND RANG DE BASANTI

If we clearly observe, then perhaps Rakeysh has taken a cue from his own blockbuster RANG DE BASANTI, where he adopted a unique format to tell the story of  freedom and freedom fighters that we all have taken for granted.  In RDB, Rakeysh conveyed the story in two time zones. In the past, Aamir Khan cast as Chandrashekar Azad, Tamil star Siddharth as Bhagat Singh, Atul Kulkarni as Ramprasad Bismil, Kunal Kapoor as Ashfaqullah Khan and Sharman Joshi as Rajguru. The same actors were also seen in contemporary times grappling with the grammar of socio-political corruption.

So it's quite possible that MIRZYA is also going on the lines of RANG DE BASANTI. Since the film is said to be inspired by the folk-lore, the legend of MIrza-Sahiban, which is one of the four popular tragic romances of Punjab, may be Rakeysh has used the idea and inculcated in contemporary times with contemporary actors Harshvardhan and Saiyami (essaying Mirza and Sahiban respectively). Further Rakeysh recently revealed that he lived with the story of MIRZYA for 30 years. While he came across the epic romance in his teens, it looks like the filmmaker has chosen to tell the story in contemporary times.

Well, let's wait and watch when the film hits the screens on October 7, 2016
