RD Burman's genius was beyond words. He was so incredible that he holds the distinction of being India's first music director who dared to compose a sexy cabaret song in a first of its kind ‘dialogue' style. Surprised!
Remember the super hit song Mera Naam Hai Shabnam …(KATI PATANG).
In an interview filmmaker Shakti Samanta said, “In KATI PATANG I had a scene where the film's vamp (Bindu) while performing a cabaret in a hotel exposes the heroine's (Asha Parekh) ‘real' name. It was a tricky situation hence after lot of pondering Pancham (RD Burman) came up with a novel concept of a song in dialogue style.”
Samanta informed, “I was a bit reluctant as I wondered how could a dialogue be tuned into a rhythmic meter but I must admit, Pancham was a real genius because no sooner lyric writer Anand Bakshi penned the song; Pancham was quick to set the words to a foot tapping rhythm.”
The song became a chartbuster and almost a national anthem similar to Munni Badnam Hui Darling Tere Liye…from Salman Khan's DABANGG.
The song is regarded as the best cabaret song of Bindu, who even today is recognized with this hit song.
