The most awaited movie UDTA PUNJAB has been in headlines from quite some time now for its Censorship row. With the movie nearing its release, the controversy grows bigger and deeper now.
Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, whose Phantom Films has co-produced the film, has been going all out, from social media to press conferences, to voice his thoughts and battle it out with Censor Board's decisions. And the industry too seems have come out in full support.
As the Censor Board demanded for 89 cuts along with the removal of word ‘Punjab' from the title UDTA PUNJAB, social media went hysterical, with fans to well-wishers to Bollywood fraternity supporting the movie. Just yesterday, producers meet was held along with UDTA PUNJAB team, where the industry seemed united and stood against Censor Board.
While Anurag is leaving no stones unturned for UDTA PUNJAB, it is strange that Balaji Motion Pictures, which also happens to be the co-producer, hasn't uttered a word in favour of their film.
With Anurag taking all the initiative and Ekta Kapoor, also being the co-producer not saying a word, it only raised the eyebrows and called for speculations. There were also media reports that Anurag Kashyap and Ekta Kapoor have locked horns over the ongoing censorship issues. Reports suggested that while Ekta's team was okay with Censor's decisions as long as the film gets released on time, on the other hand Anurag Kashyap was adamant over it. He didn't want a single cut and was ready to fight it out with CBFC.
So, when we got in touch with Ekta at a recent event and asked her if she is backing out of the project, she maintained, “Anurag and I have decided that there will only be one advisory spokesperson amongst us and he is saying it all. So I don't want to comment anything about it at this point of time.”
Well, we hope this is the only reason for Ekta's silence and not what is being speculated.
