Dear Shah Rukh Khan

I will come straight to the point; I have never been a FAN of yours. If ever there was someone who I really was in awe of, it was Amitabh Bachchan and Dimple Kapadia. I looked forward to Bachchan's films, I can see his AGNEEPATH many more times even today. He brought in that extra style to nail kaancha cheena. He is constantly evolving.Agneepath is not the only film that I loved of his; but this letter is not about him. It's about you.
From BOBBY to SAGAR to INSAAF, Dimple was a delight. Who can forget JAANBAAZ?

Today, I am bowled over by quality performances. Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Nassar, Deepak Dobriyal, Shriswara… these are just a few of the names (some of which you may not have even heard of) whose performances I look forward to.

Of course I have liked your DDLJ, DARR and BAZIGAAR but I have never looked forward to your movies the way I enjoy watching movies of the above-mentioned actors. If there is one movie of yours that does stand out for me is CHAK DE INDIA! That was FANtastic. But FAN? Yes, I am looking forward to this movie featuring you in a double role. In the recent past, never, ever have I awaited a Bollywood release with such anticipated interest!

I have been mesmerized by the promos ever since I saw it. Your alter ego is terrific! I'm sure this movie will bring a smile on the faces of your FANs. And there are plenty maniacal ones out there, just like Gaurav. I have had first-hand experience of that!

I remember the abuses I had to endure online after my review of DON 2. For your FANs, how could anyone tear down their idol? It was just not done. There were many Gaurav's out there who decided to give me a taste of their lingo. Check it out. But I had to be honest!

When you look back on your journey and see where you have reached and what you have achieved, it's easy to get swollen headed and think that it is all your doing. But I know you know that there is a higher power above who has given flight to your wings. You know that God it is who has put you where you are. He has blessed you tremendously so that you may be a blessing to others.

Moreover, you dared to dream big. You dared to take that extra step instead of waiting for things to fall in your lap. God said to Abram (Genesis 13:14). “As far as you can see I will give it to you.”

As far as you can see, that is how far God can do for anyone in their life, God cannot do for you what you cannot see. You had a glorious mental picture of your future. You are enjoying the fruits of that glorious mental picture.

And you know what? Your parents have a huge hand in this glorious mental picture you dreamt for yourself; they are constantly surrounding you with their prayers.

They are your biggest FANS!

It's sad that neither your father, nor your mother were around to enjoy your success. Both passed away before you could even make your debut in DEEWANA in 1992. I believe you plummeted yourself into work to wash away the grief of your mother's passing away in 1991.

Being a huge success today, I know you would have times when you would be wondering how it would have been if your parents were around to share your success and see how proud you have made them. That constant pain of not having been able to give them the good life and a share in your success will always be there.

But they are really proud parents and have no regrets of not being around. Believe me; they are happy where they are now. They have seen how much you have cared for your sister. And that for them will be the greatest solace: that their children are there for each other; that success never got you away from Shehnaz. She's older to you, but you have been a father figure to her!

Here's hoping FAN gives your die-hard fans lots to cheer about. As for me, I am eagerly looking forward to the duel between Aryan Khanna and Gaurav.

And before I sign off, I'd like to let you know: I really, really liked what you spoke on your 50th birthday. It was very, very, very insightful. I wanted to write then, but I guess, God has His own timing!

God Bless You.
