Finally, India's first poster boy of on screen patriotism- Manoj Kumar aka Bharat will be conferred with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2015.
Manoj Kumar will receive this honour at the 47th edition of Dadasaheb Phalke Award for outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian Cinema. The award consists of a Swarn Kamal (Golden Lotus), a cash prize of Rs. 10 lakh and a shawl.
Manoj Kumar's name for the coveted award was accepted without any debate by the five-member jury that includes names like Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Salim Khan, Nitin Mukesh and Anup Jalota.
Feeling delighted to receive the award, Manoj Kumar in a statement to the press said, “It is after about six decades that the government has recognized my efforts and contribution to Indian cinema. I am honoured today and fondly remember Raj Kapoor sahab and Raj Khosla ji. They would have been the happiest, had they been around.”
Born in July 1937 in Abbottabad (now in Pakistan), Manoj Kumar made a début with Fashion in 1957, Manoj Kumar got his first leading role in KAANCH KI GUDIA in 1960.
The legendary actor, producer, director, writer, editor will always be remembered for his son of the soil image during the mid-60's and 70's in films like UPKAR, PURAB AUR PASCHIM, SHOR, ROTI KAPADA AUR MAKAAN for example, his movies highlighted Indian ethos and sung patriotic tenet's with chorus.
In 1992, Manoj Kumar was honoured with the Padma Shri. It is being observed that works of Bollywood showman Subhash Ghai (better known for today's generation as the original maker of HERO, RAMLAKHAN) are inspired by style of Manoj Kumar.
