Idolized as the current best in portraying man-woman relationship on the marquee - Imtiaz Ali had a stimulating nostalgic dip while promoting the upcoming quirky rom com CUTE KAMEENA starring Nishant Singh and Kirti Kulhari in lead.
The movie is helmed by Imtiaz Ali's senior college mate SK (Simmi Karna) and the theme of a small town Bhopal boy Bunty played by Nishant Singh, who comes to the city of dreams – Mumbai to fulfill his dreams and falls in love with a bohemian South Mumbai girl, Avantika (Kirti Kulhari) who takes him for the ride of his life.
Imitiaz Ali relates to the boy from the small town feel and says, “ I was born in Jamshedpur and I know what picture you have when you enter this city, having the image of a star back in your home town where your talent is recognized, but here things are different, there are others too like you and you have to prove over here, no matter how popular you have been in your native place, I have gone through that phase and when I saw the character of Bunty, I found a connection.”
After coming to Mumbai, Imtiaz was directing TV programs until he got his first break as a director in 2005 with SOCHA NA THA starring Abhay Deol and Ayesha Takia. The movie didn't find much commercial success but established introduced Imtiaz Ali as a talented helmer and of course Abhay Deol as a fine actor.
Interestingly, Imtiaz Ali nostalgic dip went further when he launched the movie trailer in Sunny Super Sound. The studio is owned by SOCHA NA THA producer Dharmendra.
He said, “ It's a nostalgic feeling sitting here in this studio and launching the trailer of CUTE KAMEENA which similarly has a debutant director SK and a debutant male lead Nishant Singh, the owners of this studio gave me my first film SOCHA NA THA, Abhay Deol debuted as an actor in the film.. ”
'Cute' nostalgia in this 'kameena' world of Ishq (love, romance).. and Bollywood..
