True indeed because the duo came from different backgrounds but what bounded them was their common passion – Music. While Pyarelal learned violin from his father Pandit Ramprasad, who was a music teacher and did orchestration in Bollywood, Laxmikant was less fortunate. Readers would be surprised to know that Laxmikant, learned music on his own. Pyarelal remembering his friend Laxmikant in an interview said, “When Laxmikant was barely 8 years old he lost his father and to make a living he did many odd jobs including delivering newspaper.”

Informing about Laxmikant's passion for music Pyarelal said, “His passion for music started when he heard mouth organ being played on the road by a vendor selling the instrument. Enchanted by the music he bought the musical instrument and practiced it for hours on his own. Later he got the opportunity to learn music from the famous music composer of yore, Husanlal (of the famed Husanlal Bhagahat fame).”

Recalling their first commercially super hit film DOSTI, Pyarela shared a rare anecdote about the film. He informed, “When Rajshri Productions offered us the film DOSTI and told us the script we both were excited. In fact Laxmiji had tears in his eyes because he recalled his hard days when he used to practice mouth organ (without a teacher as he could not effort) and sometimes made a living playing mouth organ on the streets like the two friends in the film DOSTI.”

Pyarelal asserts, “When we won the Filmfare award for Best music in DOSTI despite reputed musical genius Shankar Jaikishan in the competition for their super hit score in Raj Kapoor's SANGAM, I realized it was not just our hard work that won us the award but it was Laxmiji's angst that added brilliance to the film's score.”
