While the focus was on Gauri Shinde's Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt starrer, DEAR ZINDAGI, the week gone by also witnessed the release of GPA Productions' Rajniesh and Sonarika starrer, SAANSEIN. The general belief was that due to the presence of DEAR ZINDAGI, SAANSEIN would be swept aside.SAANSEIN - THE LAST BREATH MOVIE POSTER
However, the extremely well promoted and deftly directed SAANSEIN performed creditably netting 61.20 lakhs on the opening day, followed by 79.60 lakhs on the second and capped it off with 90 lakhs on Sunday, thus netting around 2.30 crore during the opening weekend from India, thanks mainly to the B and C centres, very much as we had indicated in our Saturday box-office update.
With an all-inclusive 8 crore budget, and with the film is still doing well, and given the fact that the horror genre always fetches a good non-theatrical revenue, SAANSEIN is all set to write a success story.
When we caught up with the producer Goutam Jain and asked his views about the good performance of the film, more so in the wake of demonetisation (impact felt more in B & C centres) and against a mighty opposition like DEAR ZINDAGI, he very humbly told us, “Well, it is a good number for me as we have got a good response from the B and C centres.”
Well, SAANSEIN proves once again that small can (indeed) be beautiful!
