Cashing on the huge popularity of Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and lack of strong competition, the biopic on Indian cricket captain - MS DHONI - THE UNTOLD STORY starring Sushant Singh Rajput has set the box office record of becoming the highest earned biopic in India.

Helmed by Neeraj Pandey, the biopic released last month on September 30th 2016, got a mix response from critics but the audience lapped it up as they wanted to see the story of their cricket hero in action.

By earning a whopping 112 crores, the movie has registered itself as the highest earning biopic on Indian screens. The Sushant Singh Rajput starrer has edged the biopic on India's legendary track and field sprinter Milkha Singh - BHAAG MILKHA BHAAG (108 crores) starring Farhan Akhtar and handsomely beaten the biopic on India's boxing legend Mary Kom – MARY KOM (56 crores) starring Priyanka Chopra.

Overwhelmed by the response, Vijay Singh, CEO, Fox Star Studios, said, 'MS DHONI - THE UNTOLD STORY is now the highest earning biopic ever made (in Indian cinema). This goes to show the love people have for Mahi and how they have been discovered, adopted and promoted the film. We are truly humbled with the response from his fans, cricket lovers and movie audiences alike.”.

Adding that the lack of competition had also helped along with Indian cricket captain Dhoni's popularity, Mr. Singh said, “The demand for the shows have increased despite big releases like MIRZYA and TUTAK TUTAK TUTIYA.'

Rakesh Omprakash Mehra's MIRZYA is a washout and Sonu Sood's debut as producer TUTAK TUTAK TUTIYA in spite of being a time pass entertainer has failed to get the expected results.

Produced by Fox Star Studios and Arun Pandey of Inspired Entertainment, MS DHONI - THE UNTOLD STORY is directed by Neeraj Pandey. The movie narrates the story from the lanes of Ranchi to his becoming the captain of the Indian cricket team and winning the world cup.
