Born in a Persian family, Hasrat Jaipuri (Iqbal Hussain) started writing poetry at the age of 20. In 1940, Jaipuri came to Mumbai and started working as a bus conductor, earning a monthly salary of eleven rupees. Spotted by Prithviraj Kapoor, Jaipuri was recommended to Raj Kapoor for BARSAAT by his father.

Hasrat Jaipuri's contribution to BARSAAT - the game changer for Raj Kapoor, Shankar-Jaikishan holds significance, his first recorded song ‘Jiya Beqaraar Hai' sung by Lata Mangeshkar started a legacy of soulful evergreen melodies.

On his 95th anniversary, we remember the legendary lyricist with these five everlasting gems
