The prominent multiple new releases of last week- Raj & DK’s Sidharth Malhotra and Jacqueline Fernandez starrer A GENTLEMAN, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Bidita Bag venture BABUMOSHAI BANDOOKBAAZ, Yash Raj Films’ QAIDI BAND, the Rajat Nagpal directed MUSKURAHATEIN, Amole Gupte’s SNIFF!!! - have predictably cut into each other, resulting in a rather dull start.
Coming to specifics, the front runner turned out to be Sidharth Malhotra and Jacqueline Fernandez starrer A GENTLAMAN (15-20 percent), while the Nawazuddin-Bidita starrer BABUMOSHAI BANDOOKBAAZ lagged behind (10-15 percent). The remaining films fared worse and let us not embarrass the makers by disclosing the exact occupancies.
Given the much wider release, A GENTLEMAN dominated the limited release BABUMOSHAI BANDOOKBAAZ (1200 screens) as far as the first day goes with a 4 crore haul, while the Nawaz starrer was much lower with around 1.75-2 crore. Having said that, BABUMOSHAI BANDOOKBAAZ should trend better than A GENTLEMAN over the weekend.
Meanwhile, Rajkummar Rao, Ayushmaan Khurrana and Kriti Sanon starrer BAREILLY KI BARFI managed a sweet little 19 crore until last week, which given the 20 crore all inclusive cost, out of which 15 crore has already been recovered via non-theatrical and overseas rights, should see the film sail through as a reasonably profitable venture.
Concluding with Neeraj Pandey’s Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar starrer, TOILET- EK PREM KATHA, after a resounding opening week, 95 crore, the film fell heavily in the second (28 crore), thus netting 122 crore (to be validated) in two weeks from India, but in the process ensuring that the film ends up as a super hit.
