The much awaited and anticipated big release of the week, Akshay Kumar's TOILET-EK PREM KATHA, opened on a decent note (25-30 percent), with better collections coming (expectedly) from the single screens as well as the massy centres. The multiplexes though have not really warmed up to the socially relevant cause that the film raises- Open defecation.

Having said that the film has still managed to edge past 12 crore from India, thanks to an improved run during the latter shows, which is quite a good performance.

Given the reasonable reviews and tax-free status in many states, the film should sail through at the box-office, but unfortunately it is unlikely to be the big hit that the industry is starving for.

Meanwhile, last week's Imtiaz Ali directed SRK-Anushka starrer, JAB HARRY MET SEJAL, failed to capitalize on a decent (in spite of the negativities) 45 crore opening weekend, netting a very ordinary 60 crore, during the opening week from India. The film is all set to be huge loser for its Indian distributors.

Concluding with Anees Baazmee's Anil-Arjun starrer, MUBARAKAN, the film saw a very steady week with another 12.50 crore thus netting 48 crore (to be validated), in two weeks from India. While that is a very creditable effort indeed (given the competition), it is not good enough for MUBARAKAN to achieve that coveted success tag.
