First on net: Amitabh Bachchan pledges support for THE PLAYERS

A Big day for the magnificent Mr. Bachchan and apparently a bigger day for his Alma matter and Frank Thakurdas - the man who gave the icon of the icons his first compliment as an actor.

In a touching, moving and saddening homecoming to THE PLAYERS - the theater group of Kirori Mal College which boost amazing talents like Satish Kaushik, Sushant Singh, Vijay Raaz, Kabir Khan, Vijay Krishna Acharya, Shakti Kapoor, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Vedant to name a few, saw a pledge of support from its most celebrated alumni Amitabh Bachchan last night.

Established in 1954, Kirori Mal theater group – THE PLAYERS provided a launching pad for eminent names in theater and cinema such as Amitabh Bachchan, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Satish Kaushik, Ravi Baswani, etc under the guidance of Frank Thakurdas. Today the auditorium is in dire straits.

A few years back, it was declared unsafe and entry to the premise was banned.

Last night the celebrated alumni of THE PLAYERS gathered together to pledge their support to reshape and rebuild the theater and make it active for the aficionados of art and culture.

Spearheading the movement, Mr. Bachchan has come forward with a donation of Rs 51 lakhs, and an idea to appeal to all concern to come forward and lend support via video message to be circulated on social media and other platforms for rebuilding the auditorium which was once a hub of all artistic activities in capital city of Delhi.

Apart from the principal of Kirori Mal College Mr. Bhim Singh, noted alumni of the college like Satish Kaushik, Sushant Singh, Kabir Khan, Vijay Krishna Acharya where present.

The moment was dipped in nostalgia when Mr. Bachchan shared his experience, followed by other alumni who said that Mr. Bachchan's room was the star attraction and people use to queue up to get that room.

Though Mr. Bachchan didn,t performed under Frank Thakurdas guidance but his influence is the one which the megastar cherishes his whole life.

Mr. Bachchan has been quoted saying, “ The tall and imposing Frank Thakurdas gave me my first compliment,''.

Mr. Bachchan who was also felicitated on this occasion shared the news on his social media page by saying, 'College Alumni, meet to raise funds rebuild College theater in name of Drama teacher Frank Thakurdas .. many alumni now in Films.'
