Every now and then we come across news of copyright infringement; release of a movie gets challenged in Court, beginning a round of allegations and counter allegations.

Shreyans Hirawat, the director of NH Studioz - owner of largest library of films in India who is fighting a legal battle over copyright infringement with the makers of Amitabh Bachchan starrer SARKAR 3 says there is no grey area in copyright issue.

The director of the company that is hailed as a pioneer in copyright acquisition says, “There is no conflict in who owes what. If you have sold the film with all the copyrights then the matter is closed and Court is the best judge on the same. Our matter regarding SARKAR 3 is not yet closed and we are fighting, in good faith we wanted to the film to release. You have sold the film earlier and later you say that I have not sold this part and /or portion then it's ethically wrong. It's a matter of principles on what is written in the agreement and your standing”.

Last month Amitabh Bachchan starrer SARKAR 3 got into legal trouble after Narendra Hirawat & Co filed a case against the makers of Ram Gopal Varma's directorial over copyright infringement. The company that owns over 1300 titles claimed that Narendra Hirawat & Co acquired the copyrights of SARKAR 3 franchise after the release of the second part and is in possession of prequel, sequel, remake and all other irreversible world negative rights in perpetuity. The makers however denied the claims.

Similarly Warner Brothers moved the vacation Bench of the Bombay High Court last month alleging that the upcoming film, GUEST INN LONDON, made by Panorama Studios and starring Paresh Rawal and Kartik Aryan in lead is in continuation of ATITHI TUM KAB JAOGE made by them.

Shreyans Hirawat says it's a matter of principles which is not common in today's world. We hope time changes and we see fewer allegations and counter allegations on copyright issues.
