Are Bollywood actresses fooling themselves?

Where on one end we have actresses doing women-centric films and making their distinct mark, on the other side we have certain Bollywood actresses, who wouldn't mind being eye-candy in the film or just play wives of the superstars and ending up doing almost nothing in the film. And then there is a lot which does guest appearances but impactful enough that they can easily score over the leading faces of the film.

In the recent past we have seen quite some examples, where actresses like Sonakshi Sinha, who played wife of Salman Khan in DABANGG series and didn't have much to do in the film, then we lately saw Radhika Apte playing megastar Rajinikanth's wife in KABALI. Though she bagged the role opposite legendary Rajinikanth, but given to her credit the actress hardly had any scope in the film. Even Sakshi Tanwar, who is known for acting skills and queen of small screen, was mere present in Aamir Khan starrer DANGAL playing his wife, which was about women empowerment.

If that was not enough recently we saw Huma Qureshi in Akshay Kumar starrer JOLLY LLB 2, playing Jolly's wife, who was anything but a passable character. Yes, even after playing his ‘better half' she couldn't make her role ‘better' enough, blame it on the filmmaker for etching out an inept character. All Huma had to do was be upset with hubby AKshay, or borrow his drink or enjoying the meal cooked by hubby Akshay, who struggles throughout the day in court and while at home cooks food for the family. But on the other side the film had yet another character Hina Siddiqui, played by Sayani Gupta, which was a miniscule role but impactful and lasting one even after you leave the cinema house. Huma may have more screen time, but it seems Sayani stands to be benefitted out of JOLLY LLB 2.

It's easy to bag a starry film, for which actresses strive hard to be part of it, but our question is if that is worthy enough? Aren't actresses just fooling themselves by being mere present and let the heroes do all the action & acting?

If today we can have non-hero films like QUEEN, AKIRA, TANU WEDS MANU, NH10, MARY KOM, NEERJA etc and still can do extremely well, then we wonder why other actresses are still craving to be seen in a star-studded venture. Well time to rethink for some actresses since times are changing with a jet speed!
