While making your debut in a vast industry like Bollywood, newcomers would generally prefer to go safe and use a perfect launch pad or it's the conventional route which they follow to establish themselves here. But Bhumi Pednekar, who has been making waves right from her first film, went otherwise. She chose an unconventional route – unconventional love stories and yet carved a niche for herself.

For ages actresses from Rekha to Sridevi to Kajol to Madhuri Dixit to Preity ZInta or Rani Mukerji or Kareena Kapoor Khan or Deepika Padukone etc have gained popularity with conventional love stories and have been known for it. And with that industry very conveniently and tangentially formed a conviction that if an actor wants to be successful it has to be conventional route and conventional love stories became a staple diet for the industry. But with changing times, unconventional subjects are gaining more attention, while conventional movies are gradually taking a backseat. And call it her luck Bhumi entered the industry when unconventional subjects have become order of the day.

Nobody in their wildest of dreams thought when Bhumi embarked her career with an unconventional film like DUM LAGA KE HAISHA, wherein she played a portly simple small town girl who yearns for respect & love from her husband, that it would be such a huge hit and break all the stereotypes of conventional love stories. Post that she did TOILET: EK PREM KATHA, which was yet again a love story with a backdrop of an unconventional and untouched upon subject. No one can imagine that a love story can be weaved around a public issue topic. Where other actress would shy away from even giving a nod to TOILET, Bhumi played the role with élan and won everyone's hearts. In fact the film went on to become a 100 crore plus venture

And now yet again Bhumi has left an indelible mark with an unconventional love story like SHUBH MANGAL SAAVDHAN, which touches upon the issues related to men (ED). The film garnered critical acclaim and good response. Bhumi's performance was also appreciated.

With three back-to-back unconventional love stories, Bhumi is indeed going great guns in the industry. And if her reign in unconventional zone continues then she can certainly be called as Queen of unconventional love stories!
