ELAAN is an explosive tale of a nation on the edge, pushed to the margins by diabolic elements out to ignite global terror. More precisely, it is a mission film about five characters and their elaan against one man. Produced by Ganesh Jain and Ratan Jain and directed by Vikram Bhatt, the film stars Arjun Rampal, John Abraham, Rahul Khanna, Amisha Patel, Lara Dutta and Mithun Chakraborty. The film portrays Mithun Chakraborty in an all new role of a terrorist, who shifts base outside India. One of the protagonists (Rahul Khanna) decides to go and bring him back to the country. He in turn approaches a suspended police officer (Arjun Rampal), who hires the services of a man from Mithun's gang to catch hold of him.
Shot exclusively on the exotic expanses of picturesque Switzerland, Russia, France, Italy, and other virgin locales, ELAAN is replete with chases, violent ambushes, carbine battle and boat intercepts, besides the usual romantic interludes. It is also for the first time that action director Abbas Ali Moghul and choreographer Raju Khan have worked in tandem picturizing both action and songs respectively on the same locations, giving the film an authentic look.
This is director Vikram Bhatt's first film with Venus. Bhatt's last few releases have not been very successful at the box-office. Besides, action films haven't done very well in the recent past but both Venus and Bhatt have great expectations from this film considering the cast, its mind-blowing action and locations. The film is said to have gone over-budget but according to Bhatt the cost incurred on the film is evident in every frame.
