by none other than Rajkumar Santoshi who has handled versatile subjects like Ghayal,
Ghatak, Damini, China Gate & Lajja.
The music of the film is by A R Rahman who has transformed the simplest of songs
into high-energy compositions that are sure to arouse the Indian in each of us. The
lyrics are by Sameer who has penned the patriotic songs for the movie.
The story..
On the 23rd of March, 1931, in the dead of the night, three bodies are smuggled
out of Lahore Central Jail via the back gate. They're taken to an isolated
place, chopped up into pieces and surreptitiously cremated by British officers. The
next day, this incident creates a national uproar throughout India. Later that
day, a crowd of angry political activists gherao Mahatma Gandhi and accuse him
of colluding in the execution of their hero.
Who was that man who's corpse had struck such fear in the powerful British government
that they had to destroy it in the darkness? Who was it because of whom Mahatma
Gandhi was accused of dishonesty? Who was that man whose memory invokes such
powerful passions even 71 years after his death?
He was Bhagat Singh - India's most beloved son. An extraordinary young man who
happily became a martyr for his country at the tender age of 23. A revolutionary who single-
handedly shook up the powerful British government, exposing their true barbaric
nature. A man for whom victory lay in his own death. This is his story, his legend. The
Legend of Bhagat Singh.
The stars..
The role of Bhagat Singh is played by Ajay Devgan who has played a variety
of roles in the past. Sushant Singh is Sukhdev and D.Santosh is Rajguru.
Farida Jalal plays the role of Bhagat Singh's mother Mata Vidyavati
and Raj Babbar as his father Kishen Singh. Amrita Rao plays the girl
who loved Bhagat Singh so totally that she remained unmarried and until she died,
was known as 'Bhagat Singh's widow'.
Facts about Bhagat Singh worth knowing
- Bhagat Singh joined the National College, Lahore that was bringing to the
field of Education the idea of Swadeshi. He had an impressive academic record
in college. He was also a member of the College Dramatics Society and achieved
much prominence.
- Bhagat Singh did not believe in giving lectures and the talk. He believed
in the act. He was inspired by a song that said "To serve a
country is very difficult. To talk about it is easy."
- There are only four documented photographs of Bhagat Singh. Yet, his name
is known to every Indian. Then, now & forever.
- It was in 1929 - when Bhagat Singh was in jail - that his popularity was
equal to that of Mahatma Gandhi according to the History of the Indian
National Congress by Pattabhi Seetaramaiah, which is the official biography
of the Congress. At the time, Gandhiji was 61 & Bhagat Singh was only 21. Gandhi's struggle
began at 34. Bhagat Singh died at 23.
- When Bhagat Singh was sentenced to death there were lacs of petitions, millions
of telegrams and appeals signed with blood. Among those who pleaded his case, were
Motilal Nehru, Subhash Chandra Bose, and the King of Norway & high profile British
members of Parliament.
- Bhagat Singh was fluent in Urdu, Hindi, Gurmukhi, English & Sanskrit.
- Bhagat Singh is the only freedom fighter on which 5 films are being
produced simultaneously and all are being released nearly on the same time.
