CHAAR DIN KI CHANDNI shows a lot of promise as a good comedy film early on, but totters in between. Johnny Lever's character is introduced well, but soon disappears, only to appear briefly again. To my mind, that is a huge waste, having Johnny and not making optimum use of his presence. The 'royal' (high caste-low caste) standing too gets a bit tedious. Somehow, director Samir Karnik manages to hold the film together and does come up with some hilarious scenes that will leave you in splits.

The film has a subtle reference to the 1989 Yash Chopra blockbuster, CHANDNI. The female lead, Kulraj Randhawa, is named Chandni and that is reason enough for the title song of the yesteryear film to keep being played in the background. That's in fact a smart move, because it does elevate the film.

CHECK OUT: Ajay & Tusshar are 2012's 'Singhs'

CDKC is about two youngsters who meet in London. Tusshar Kapoor (Veer) and Kulraj Randhawa (Chandni) fall in love while they study abroad. His sister is getting married in Rajasthan and he brings Chandni along for the wedding to their palatial home. However, there is a hitch. His 'daddu' (Anupam Kher), will not settle for someone less than royal blood as a match for anyone in his family. So what if both are Singhs! Given this scenario, and considering Veer is always tongue-tied in front of his 'Daddu', he lies about Chandni to keep her in his home.

This one lie leads to a comedy of errors. Chandni now not only has to deal with hiding her identity but also warding off Veer's three brothers who try different means to befriend the good-looking and witty lass.

Tusshar Kapoor is the most underrated, 'earnest' actor. He gives his all but always faces the flak. In CHAAR DIN KI CHANDNI he is made to fit into his dad's (Jeetendra) shoes. The choreography at least suggests that. He gets all his moves right and also makes a cute pair with Kulraj who gives a smashing performance. Right from 'take-one' this girl has you in her palm with her spot-on timing. She is completely in sync with her character. Her body language is amazing. When the film slacks a bit it is she who peps it up.

CHECK OUT: Ajay roped in for Tusshar Kapoor's CHAAR DIN KI CHANDNI

Mukul Dev, Chandrachur Singh and Sushant Singh as Tusshar's brothers offer good support, while Om Puri is getting louder by the day, a bit like Saaed Jaffery.

Towards the end, the film moves into 'Singh is King' zone and also has references to GHAJINI, DABANGG, WANTED and THE DIRTY PICTURE.

CDKC is not all that bad. It's a good family entertainer if you are looking to lighten up your mood.
