It is perhaps destiny that MILENGE MILENGE is finally releasing. It brings together the pair of Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor after so many years. It will surely change your outlook towards destiny.
Priya (Kareena Kapoor) is a die hard romantic person who believes in destiny. A tarot card reader (Kirron Kher) tells her that she will find her prince charming on specific day and wearing specific clothes that too in a foreign country. Priya, who has no plans of a foreign trip, suddenly finds her college group selected to attend a Youth Festival in Bangkok. There she meets Amit/ Immy (Shahid Kapoor) on that specific day, wearing specific clothes. She's convinced that he's the guy for her. (Whatever!)
However, Priya is peeved as soon as she finds out that Immy has wooed her with blatant lies. They separate with Priya telling Immy that they'll meet if they are 'destined to'.
Too much is left on 'destiny' and too little on the script. The film has its share of corny dialogues, random dream songs and a flimsy plot. While the first half is still bearable, the second half is too stretched. The love story is simply not engaging enough.
There are some really trite scenes. Immy is smoking a cigarette in his room. When he comes to know that his father is coming in his room, he lights up an incense stick and pretends praying. MAINE PYAAR KIYA, anyone? Also, a bank employee agrees to provide the address of a credit card customer to Immy 'insaaniyat ke nate'. How touching! There are also jokes which were circulated as SMS forwards once upon a time.
The production values of MILENGE MILENGE are upbeat though and don't give the audience a hint about it being dated. The film is set in a time when people didn't have mobile phones and people used to give their landline numbers.
Shahid Kapoor comes up with an excellent performance in the film. Kareena Kapoor also doesn't disappoint. She plays her role with elan. They share a sizzling chemistry which soars above the weak script. Satish Kaushik is hilarious in his small role. Delnaaz Paul plays Kareena's loud friend to the T while Aarti Chhabria is mediocre. Music by Himesh Reshammiya is average with a couple of hummable songs.
Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor starred in JAB WE MET. Now, they are paired again in MILENGE MILENGE. While the former 'met' success, let's leave the chances of the latter on destiny, shall we?
