Is BANGISTAN a comedy? I wish it was! I was hoping it was. I read it was.

Did the director even realize that he shifted focus and was just meandering through in the first half?

I hope so.

And did Excel Entertainment understand that the film turned preachy towards the end, although, I would like to believe that it was not the intention. But then when you have too much running into your mind [with no clarity of thought at the table] before executing the first shot, films like BANGISTAN do happen.

With all these thoughts running through my mind, I hail an auto for D N Nagar Metro Station after the Press Preview on Thursday. Before I can jump in, I am met with another critic who asks me what I thought of the film. I'm still at a loss for words. I mention the name Karan Anshuman and it being familiar. She tells me that he was a film critic earlier. That puts one puzzle in place.

However, I'm still sozzled by the entire presentation. I'm trying to figure out things in my mind, to make sense of what I have just seen.

Wanting to understand if the autowallah has seen the film, and wanting to ensure I understood the movie, I ask the driver...

Me: Have you seen BANGISTAN?

Auto driver: Whatay film! I've seen it twice already!

Me: But you couldn't...

Auto driver: Miracles happen when a reviewer turns filmmaker.

Me: Obviously you liked it...

Auto driver: Liked? Liked! Is that even a question? Did you see the last leap out of a conference hall? Those two terrorists have a sudden change of heart. What a climax!

Me: Err, if you could just...

Auto driver: And then, next scene! They both are alive! Thank God. I thought they died in the blast. They had the bomb in their hands, you see!

Me: Alive? You mean...

Auto driver: And then that story of how they were trying to finish off the bomber because he bungled big time!

Me: Yeah, but...

Auto driver: And then lovely Jacqueline Fernandez makes an appearance. And its love at first sight.... for Pulkitbhai that is.

Me: Yeah wasn't that strange? She just appeared out of nowhere, even though the script did not demand it. She also sang a song.

Auto driver: Arrre, what you saying? Look at how gorgeous she looked. She did not look so stunning even in KICK. How can the script not demand it?

Me: Now that you put it that way...

Auto driver: And that funny manner on how they went about assembling a bomb and the Polish police coming over to check and not finding anything. That was a masterstroke.

Me: Well...

Auto driver: Even Pulkit still wanting to bomb after being told that the people who sent him will come after him...

Me:
...

Auto driver:
And what a climax in the end. Did I mention it? Every religious head is in Poland and Arya Babbar has now been sent to bomb... then he grabs a mike and gives a speech instead of pressing the button...

Me: Exactly... was it a comedy or a...?

(Since the reviewer was at a loss for words, he dug up reviews of the first-time director and found a template for this masterpiece!)
