Taking cues from haunted and possession films in Bollywood, GREAT GRAND MASTI - The third installment of the hit MASTI (2004) followed by a much bigger hit GRAND MASTI (2013) is a disgusting testimony on how far (read low) a filmmaker can go for mass consumption.
The once prolific Indra Kumar (DIL, BETA, etc), seems to be in some kind of a bizarre experiment, The director is churning out awfully pathetic movies and hoping it will score at the box office.
If Indra Kumar's previous Rekha starrer SUPER NANI (2014) was terrible, this one is an awfully outrageous, disgusting follow up to the bawdy MASTI series.
GREAT GRAND MASTI probably on paper might have looked great as a spoof on Bollywood's 'Ramsay' school of horror twined with raunchy sex and humor element.
But unfortunately for the makers it has proven to be a problematic experience that might thankfully result in the end of this dozen year old MASTI exercise. Rejoice.
Instead of being funny, this gross-out sequel plays like a sloppy, rushed-out product. GRAND MASTI failed to add some 'hot' flames on its own to ignite the lewd genre but in ways strictly managed to make the diehard followers of this genre in this part of the world sh@#$%&g in merry who loved to be pressed under the belt to crack a smile and a hole in their wallet.
This one is unexcitingly zero in its lewd feelings, fun and emotional healing. A subjectively, comically, technically strained and drained effort.
Writers Tushar Hiranandani, Akash Kaushik, and Madhur Sharma (also dialogues) start off with the Masti boys (really 'boys' after 12 years), Meet Mehta (Vivek Oberoi), Prem Chawla (Aftab Shivdasani) and Riteish Deshmukh (Amar Saxena) thank God Ajay Devgn moved away from this and I had a weird passing thought of Devgn watching this and slapping all in the frame for continuously doing this in his 'Singham' style...
Anyways, the unexciting sex deprived life of this 'boys' is spoiled by either a sasu maa (mother-in-law) played by Usha Nadkarni, or a saali (sister-in-law) played by Kangna Sharma or a beefed up saala (brother-in-law) played by Ketan Karandhe.
Following up on the sequel pattern, the outlandishly loud right from the word go till the very end Aftab Shivdasani as Prem (acting still the same) comes with an idea that fails to change the duniya (world) of this movie... Anyways jingles apart, coming back to the 'idea', the boys decide to get some masti in the pretext of selling ages old mansion of Amar in a village raunchily titled 'Doodhwadi' wow how bawdy is that!..
A sexy and hungry siren since fifty years by the name of Shabari (Urvashi Rautela) is waiting for them in the mansion to fulfill her desires. Rest is all 'ghost' busters of your senses and believes in laughter with an insult to cinema and shame in the name of sex comedies.
Not quite an oomph but certainly attractive Urvashi Rautela gets the most of it and she does it nicely in her capacity. One scene in which she wags her stretched tongue over the three boys made me smile.
Otherwise the movie has nothing to write about its merits though Vivek Oberoi and Riteish Deshmukh repeat the routine without much trouble. The wife's Mishti, Pooja and Shraddha had nothing much to do. Sanjay Mishra, Usha Nadkarni and Sonali Raut are okay. Shreyas Talpade in a cameo is fine.
Technicalities are average while the music by Sharib Sabri, Toshi Sabri, Superbia fails to make us hum along.
GREAT GRAND MASTI is a ghoulishly unfulfilled and terribly ironic follow-up to the bawdy MASTI series that makes you feel bad for Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi and director Indra Kumar because they had not actually hit this rock bottom until they agreed to appear in it.
On a lighter note, GREAT GRAND MASTI might serve as a terrific revenge material for those who have irritated us with repeatedly bad jokes right from our campus days to our whatsapp updates. Show them this flick.
