 Hungama
Director :
Music :
Lyrics :
Starring :
 Priyadarshan
 Nadeem Shravan
 Sameer
Aftab, Rimi Sen, Akshay Khanna, Paresh Rawal

By Kshama Rao

After the bland Suneil Shetty-Mahima Chowdhury starrer Yeh Tera Ghar Yeh Mera Ghar, director Priyadarshan regains his comic touch with Hungama. As the name suggests, the film is a result of mistaken identities and a one-too-many misunderstandings resulting into sheer chaos. Add to that some 30-40characters, most of whom you would have readily chopped off on the editing table.

Nandu (Aftab Shivdasani) is an unemployed singer who has to live in a rented house with Anjali (Rimi Sen) who has come to Mumbai in search of a job. Since the landlord accommodates only married couples, Nandu and Anjali pretend to be man and wife. Jeetu (Akshaye Khanna) is born to a miser of a father who has lots of money to stack away but doesn''t have finance to support his son''s business. Result: Jeetu robs his own father and starts an electronic goods showroom. Radheshyam Tiwari (Paresh Rawal) is an industrialist who has several companies in his wife Anjali (Shoma Anand)''s name. Now because of the confusion of one name ''Anjali'', Jeetu thinks Anjali (Sen) is Tiwari''s daughter while Tiwari feels Jeetu is having an affair with his wife Anjali (Anand) while Anjali the wife suspects Tiwari to have a thing going with the other Anjali. There are several other sub-plots but nothing worth writing about.

The film is watchable because of its pace, the gag-a-second screenplay and the performances by the three men (Paresh Rawal, Akshaye Khanna and Aftab Shivdasani). Not especially the Tiwari-Jeetu scenes or even the Jeetu-Nandu showdowns. Comic to the hilt. Rawal with his Laloo Prasad Yadav take-off takes away all the scenes while Akshaye seems to have enjoyed his part very much, it shows. Aftab even in the least meaty part is likeable. Rimi is just another newcomer. A special mention to Shoma Anand, who despite her loud character, is still a welcome change.

   Viewer's Feedback

This is a horrible movie. I am a person who have watched the original "Poochakkoru Mookkuthi" in malayalam so many times. Made more than 20 years back, its pathetic that Priyadarshan coudn't improve on that theme and had to stick to each and every scene and each character.

This is the most boring movie i have ever seen in a theatre, even though i am a movie buff, i can''t belive it!!, Its nothing but a royal waste of ur precious time, DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE AT ANY COST
