Films with 'K' are slated for disaster, I guess. Just two weeks ago we were treated to KAANCHI, regressive cinema of the 90s. This week we have KOYELAANCHAL; another movie which gets us to visit the 90s kind of cinema, some of which were mindless amalgamation of scenes. A few years ago we had the Imran Khan-Minisha Lamba starrer KIDNAP!
In this movie, we have a villain who washes the feet of his guru in a thali
and then in one repulsive move, drinks the water. He is also shown bare-bodied for most of the film, killing people with robot like movements. Later, he is saddled with an infant.
The film's guru heads the coal mafia. For forty years he has had complete control over the proceedings and the villagers. Even high-profile officers coming from the Centre were not able to break his hold. CHECK OUT: Koyelaanchal Movie Dialogues
In comes a District Collector with orders to clean up the mess. But he soon gets a taste of the violence and has to back off, until his forces are refurbished with more power from the Centre.
For the first 25 minutes, director Ashuu Trikha is trying to figure out the mess he has gotten into. He doesn't know which way to fire the bullets. So randomly, we are treated to killings while a voice-over tries to put sense into the proceedings.
Suniel Shetty sleepwalks into the role. I guess he too was wondering how he got caught in this mess. Vinod Khanna as the guru, who heads the coal mafia, is the lone actor who seems to revel in the madness, keeping the actor in him alive. CHECK OUT: Koyelaanchal - Songs Lyrics
I believe (according to information from insiders) that this movie was funded solely for Vippino, who plays the baddie. And when producers pump in money because they want to act, the end result is always a disaster.
Coming back to K, not all movies with K have bombed... we have a few film-makers who swear by the letter 'K'.
