Pizza 3D has a good premise for a horror film. Kunal (Akshay Oberoi) is a pizza delivery boy married to Nikita (Parvathy Omanakuttan), a struggling writer who revels in scripting horror stories. Her life revolves around watching spooky films which spooks her husband who has continuous nightmares.
Still, Kunal is sure there are no ghosts. His wife tells him that one day his 'moment will come'. It does, when he meets his boss' possessed wife. From that moment on, his life is thrown out of gear as things start going horribly wrong for him.
A simple Pizza delivery turns into a nightmare, and when he comes out of it, he finds his wife missing. CHECK OUT: PIZZA 3D movie special
At the start of the film you are assured the ingredients are just right, but as the movie progresses, you realize that Akshay Akkineni has crossed the line when it comes to stretching a horror sequence - it goes from being spooky to horrific to a joke. There's too much of mixed toppings of pepperoni, mushrooms and onions. In the end, it leaves a bad taste in your mouth.
To add to it, you have Imran Khan belting out Bhaag D K Bose
on television as you exit the theatre! It's more like an 'up yours' moment for the director!
The movie is a remake of a Tamil suspense supernatural thriller film by the same name. This movie was later dubbed into Telugu (as PIZZA) and remade into Kannada as WHISTLE before entering Bollywood via Bejoy Nambiar. News is that it is now being remade in Bengali as GOLPO HOLEO SHOTTI. The topping on this pizza is that (if rumours are to be believed) Hollywood is also planning a remake!!!
Akshay Oberoi and Parvathy Omanakuttan who play Kunal and Nikita are perfect for this role. Both stand out with their performances as Akkineni goes about setting the platform for the fright to follow. Nikita as the struggling writer who finds out that they are to have a baby and Kunal's reaction to the news based on his meagre salary; his tryst with his boss' wife and Nikita's back story of a friend who committed suicide are all perfect. CHECK OUT - Dipannita Sharma: Our PIZZA is fresh!
Even Dipannita Sharma and Arunoday Singh come up with frightening cameos. But the end actually is the biggest spoiler. The director could have called ''cut'' when Kunal's boss asks him to take a break to get over his recent ordeal.
Instead, he goes back to munch on the toppings which have fallen on the floor! There are no 3D thrills either!!!
