Up until 2007, Ram Gopal Varma had built up a rhythm as a director. Then all went upwards (you know where I mean). He go so emboldened with his creativity that he decided to make an unauthorized remake of the 1975 cult classic, SHOLAY. He decided to call it RAM GOPAL VARMA KI AAG. History records that the film bombed big time. RGV lost his rhythm and his bloated ego went phuss!

ROCKY HANDSOME WALLPAPERS
ROCKY HANDSOME WALLPAPERS

Cut to 2016. Nishikant Kamath has given us some intensifying moments on screen with his crisp direction and edge-of-the-seat moments. Now comes ROCKY HANDSOME, which is as imaginative and as naive as RGV KI AAG. Not only Nishikant Kamath, but Also John Abraham, whose production this is, decides to go the RGV way. Johnny boy decides to call it ROCKY HANDSOME, ensuring that viewers know that he is handsome. You are Johnny, of that there is no doubt!

The movie is all about Johnny boy's khadoos looks, well-toned body, some flashbacks, and some very good stylized fights. Johnny boy fights well. He is a killer. He works for an intelligence agency. He even takes off a bullet lodged in his abdomen, at his home. Doctor saab is not required.

Now for the story: There is Manto a drug dealer, who also deals in sale of human organs: Kidney, heart, liver, spleen, eyes, skin, and what have you. He takes off everything from the human body and sells. He is also into child kidnapping. He uses these children for his drug dealings. Drugs are sealed in toys and sent through children. You see, cops do not suspect children. That is their logic.

There are two brothers Kevin and Luke Ferreira. They are the right and left hand of Manto. Now it so happens that a drug consignment weighting a kilo is flicked by a feisty babe and Kevin's bald head becomes the tabla for Manto. Kevin does not like it. He decides to take on Manto. He kills him.

Manto's empire now becomes Kevin and Luke's. They use Kabir Ahlawat, yes that's John Abraham, to get to Manto. Now Abraham, aka Handsome does it because his neighbour and her child, who he is fond of, are kidnapped by Kevin.

Ok, now let me go to the start of the movie. We are shown Handsome in a fish market; he goes into flashback mode thinking of his wife. We understand some wrong has been done to him. We are shown some interaction between handsome boy and a little girl and then the film cuts to 'one month ago'. Kamath forgets this aspect and soon merges the one month ago to present time. How do I know? Manto gives Kevin three days to find his consignment, and the next you know is that Handsome boy is back into that time frame. One month gaya tel lagane!

Anyways, forget all this back-and-forth. In his quest to get to the girl, Handsome boy wreaks havoc. He does not spare even the Goa cops. Yes, I forgot to mention, this film is shot in Goa and no Goa is shown. It's just Handsome boy, his physique, his emotionless face and his action scenes. We are also shown the two brothers, one of who is the director bhaisaab himself. Crazy guys! How the censors let a Goan bad word slip into the dialogue is a mystery to me.

Maybe they did not understand the meaning, just like I am still trying to understand what this movie was all about.
