Running Shaadi Review By Vishal Verma, Glamsham Editorial

Yeh beep beep beep beep kyu hai, yeh beep beep? (why this beep beep, beep beep)... well that's between the CBFC and that com, coma. You will find them in the Hindi heartland and are known as love commandos, but this mad caper about a website that helps in eloping with your future partner isn't any near to take reality check dear. Amit Roy's RUNNING SHAADI (the beeping of the word com is absolutely weird and it comes again and again) is a failed variation of Yash Raj's BAND BAAJA BAARAAT directed by Maneesh Sharma buffed with a bit of Imtiaz Ali's JAB WE MET.

RUNNING SHAADI

Nicely performed by Taapsee Pannu and Amit Sadh, RUNNING SHAADI is watchable provided you are in bubble-gumof mind to feel the breeziness and 'cool' ness of this rom com that will be never asked by your friends to locate it for them, even when you are sitting with them watching TV and in charge of the remote control.

Amit Roy and Navjot Gulati pen this 1 hour 55 minutes story of a Punjabi chori Nimmi (Taapsee Pannu) who is a care free kudi who gets intimate with her boyfriend in her teens and has a soft corner for Bihari immigrant Bharose (Amit Sadh) who succeeds in getting her abortion done and finding a place in her heart in due course. Reduced to just a servant by Nimmi's father, one day Bharose leaves the job and the idea of opening a website where he can help lovers elope and get married flashes his mind like a moonlight from now here. His buddy Cyber (Arsh Bajwa - endearingly performed) interesting character with that 'like' mark printed on his pagadi seconds his thoughts. With the help of Nimmi's credit card they buy a domain name and guess what, profiles comes pouring in without wasting anytime and we see a proper developed portal within seconds. From where did they got the funds?, without giving answers to such questions, we see Bharose and Cyber turning angels to the lovers who cannot get married due to barriers of cast, religion and creed. From here it could have been a different game altogether but alas.

The sequence are not much funny and when the concentration shifts from Punjab to Bihar as the love story of Nimmi and Bharose hijacks everything taking a JAB WE MET mode, Bollywood's famous typecasting and buffoonery steps in though in couple of scenes Pankaj Jha excels and forces us to laugh out loud.

Taapsee character is better defined then that of Bharose and the director fails to cash on the underdog, immigrant, Love commando points that the plot has already offered and sacrifices itself to be just a routine rom com that fails to engage throughout and is poor in music as well.

Going by the plot and theme RUNNING SHAADI could have been a humourous take on the wedding and love scenes in India and the expose of the dangers of social media and pros and cons of marriage portals but it ends up as a waste opportunity.
