With the movie "Hum Tum", Tata Elxsi's Visual Computing Labs (VCL) has innovated a concept of designing animation for movies where animation segments take the story forward.
This is a first for the Indian feature film industry. VCL has helped design and supervise the execution of each of the sequences, aligning them with the lead character who is a cartoonist.
"Hum Tum" is directed by Kunal Kohli, and produced by Aditya Chopra, with Rani Mukherjee and Saif Ali Khan playing the lead roles.
The total effort amounted to about 20 minutes of animation. The film is replete with transition sequences, from cell animation to live and from live to live sequences.
