"Marte Marte Chela Guru Ko Jeena Sikha Diya. Dukh Apne Liye Rakha, Anand Sabke Liye" the rather apt and touching dialogue from one of the characters from the film ANAND. This more than anything, captures the philosophy of one of India's most sensitive film makers the incomparable Hrishikesh Mukherjee.

His characters, the ambience of his films, the situations, the sensitivities and the subtleties all evolved and revolved around the middle class milieu.
