Love him or hate him! But you can’t avoid him. This would be the most befitting words when one is talking about the current musical sensation Himesh Reshammiya. After a long sabbatical the guy’s back… and not just that but back with a difference! The self-proclaimed rock star is all set to offer himself as an actor this time around with the movie AAP KA SUROOR. One was anticipating this step when the rumor mills were thick and strong with all types of speculations about him wanting to be an actor. The rounds of speculation have ended. He is indeed doing a movie.

Do singers make good actors? Or more specifically, have they made good actors (at least in Bollywood)? Not so long ago, Sonu Nigam tried to indulge as an actor but to no avail. He starred in JAANI DUSHMAN and LOVE IN NEPAL, but both the movies crashed at the box-office. The same goes for rapper Baba Sehgal and ‘O Oh Jaane Jaana’ fame Kamaal Khan who did try their luck as an actor but without much of a reward.

In Bollywood perhaps, the legendary K L Saigal and the beloved Kishore Kumar are the only two candidates who can qualify as the most successful, infact enormously successful singer-actors. K L Saigal immortalized DEVDAS and Kishoreda regaled and charmed the movie-lovers with his hilarious but well-toned performances in CHALTI KA NAAM GAADI, PADOSAN and PYAR KIYE JAA. Kishore’s contemporaries and all-time greats the late Mukesh and Talat Mehmood also tried to don the actors’ hat but as they say both these stalwarts were to be best remembered for their unforgettable singing, and remembered they are!

Well all in all the scenario is not up to the scratch for singers aspiring to be actors. But hey this was just a flip through the history pages. Will Himesh be able to tell a different story? Going by his ever-mounting popularity the guess could well probably tilt towards his side. You never know. As far his acting talent is concerned only time will tell. Right now let’s leave it here and wait for Himesh to emerge on the big screen!
