Nagesh Kukunoor and the rest of the cast and crew of DOR are on a high. The film has been showered with praises and is winning rave reviews. Well the latest buzz about DOR is that it is very unoriginal. It has been inspired by a Malayalam film called PERUMAZHAKKALAM.
"DOR is based on a real life story. Without doubts, I would say that DOR is my most dramatic film. As a filmmaker I make it a point to challenge myself. At times I may succeed and at times I may not," Nagesh had quoted earlier.
However he admitted that he has just retained the tagline, "How far would you go to save the one you love" from the film since he loved it. To avoid controversies later, he bought the remake rights of the film, only to use that 1 particular line. He has even given credits to T A Razak the writer of PERUMAZHAKKALAM for using that line, he informed a daily.
He further said that he was aware of this film but DOR is based on a real life incident and he wanted to make it much before he had even heard of the Malayali film.
PERUMAZHAKKALAM deals with the same subject and has even bagged the National Award for the Best film in 2005.
