Nagesh Kukunoor mesmerized by Thai culture!

Bombay to BangkokThere’s something about Nagesh Kukunoor that catapults him in a different league altogether. His sensibilities and his unique way of storytelling, is perhaps what distinguishes Nagesh Kukunoor from the rest. Known for small budget films minus mainstream Bollywood stars, Nagesh’s films are bound to draw crowds, the success of the critically acclaimed DOR being a recent validation of his work.

His upcoming Mukta Searchlight Films BOMBAY TO BANGKOK is a romantic comedy starring his blue eyed boy Shreyas Talpade and also introduces Thai actress Lena Christianson. The maverick director seems to be completely smitten by Thai culture and wants to showcase Thailand in a different light. The clichéd idea of actors suddenly breaking into a jig doesn’t quite appeal to Nagesh.

“I’ve been a frequent visitor to Thailand. I am really fascinated by the place and I’ve always had this strong urge to showcase Thailand in an unusual way. I someday wanted to make a film that sincerely attempted to understand Thai culture and here I am with BOMBAY TO BANGKOK,” said an elated Nagesh.

Talking about the film he revealed, “It’s amazing how similar our cultures are, but yet they are different (this probably explains the films catch line ‘same same but different’) The basic premise of the film is how an Indian guy meets a Thai girl, followed by some chaos and how they fall in love and live happily ever after.”

On his association with Shreyas Talpade he said, “I immensely enjoy working with Shreyas. This is our third film and I am looking forward to it.”

Speaking at the occasion Subhash Ghai said, “Mukta Searchlight Films is proud to associate with a creative filmmaker like Nagesh Kukunoor and a gifted actor like Shreyas. As always Nagesh has come up with a unique story and a unique concept. With BOMBAY TO BANGKOK I hope we can recreate the success story of IQBAL.”

Two special Thai guests also graced the occasion. Thai actress Lena Christianson remarked, “I am honoured and excited to be here. Thailand is beautiful and I hope it will be shown differently in this film.”
