Rituparna Sengupta is a name to reckon with in the Bengali film industry. The National award winning actress has worked with acclaimed filmmakers like Rituparno Ghosh and Buddhadeb Dasgupta and harbors a dream to make it big in Bollywood as well.

The recent debacle of her film UNNS hasn’t dampened her spirits though she has learnt her lesson, “Honestly I was disappointed with the response to UNNS. It dealt with a relevant subject like sanctity of marriage and we all performed to the best of our ability. I really don’t know what went wrong,” sighs Rituparna adding, “The film got delayed and may be the publicity wasn’t as good as it should’ve been. Plus we chopped off a few great songs which would’ve really made a difference.”

Nonetheless, she feels it was a learning experience and is glad that her role was appreciated. “I’m happy that my portion was appreciated and I’ve realized the importance of a good script.”

The multifaceted actress has just completed shooting for GAURI- The unborn with Anupam Kher and Atul Kulkarni. The film is a passionate love story with a mysterious element and gives out a strong message.

She is effusive in her praise for Anupam Kher. “Anupamji is a darling. He is so jovial and always on his toes. He gives you the right advice at the right time.”

The Bengali damsel has her kitty full with numerous films but she is enthusiasm personified about the album ‘Mere Man Mein Dhadkan Mein’ (Rabindra Shraddhanjali), for which Amitabh Bachchan recently lent his voice (narration). It is the first-ever full-fledged Rabindranath Tagore song album in Hindi, with lyrics translated by Javed Akhtar. A video has already been picturised on Ashmit Patel and her.

Rituparna is yearning for big banners though she has a string of films coming up. “I am longing to do big banner films. I’m trying my level best to better myself and trying to choose the right kind of films,” she says.

She has signed Kalpana Lajmi’s UNTITLED film which has Ishaa Koppikar in a courtesan’s avatar. Her first English film HIDDEN is about to take off and NEECHA AASMAN opposite Madhavan is not yet confirmed. Manish Gupta’s SAAB CHAI PANI and Aniruddha Choudhury’s ANURANON is complete.

Not only that, she also has SIRF starring Kay Kay Menon, Manisha Koirala, Ranivr Shorey, Sonali Kulkarni and Parveen Dabbas and yet another film with Kay Kay Menon to be directed by Anjan Dutt (of BONG CONENCTION fame). HOUSE ARREST with Shekhar Suman and LOVE GAME with Randeep Hooda is yet to go on floors.
