DIL DOSTI ETC. surprises at box office

When majority of films released in the month of September have disappointed at the box office, a small film like DIL DOSTI ETC. has surprised by turning out to be an earner.
Not much was expected from the film when released. There were number of factors that didn't quite create an excitement around the film. First and foremost the title was hardly the kind which could entice an audience. Secondly, the publicity was patchy while alternating between songs and talkie promos.
The starcast only had Shreyas Talpade as the known name who had just been a part of dud AGGAR and could hardly boast of a box office pull all by himself. Director Manish Tiwary was unheard of as he made his debut. The film's theme wasn't universal either.
Still, the film went on to take a decent opening. In fact it wasn't good or earth shattering but decent which in turn was good enough for a small budget film like this. As the weekend progressed, the word of mouth helped it consolidate its status further which meant respectable collections as the first week came to an end.
In spite of a restricted release, the film has gone on to sustain itself well at the theaters and has been given a good presence at the multiplexes in the second week. With this, DIL DOSTI ETC. has now an added week to fill up its coffers before twin releases BHOOL BHULAIYAA and LAAGA CHUNARI MEIN DAAG take over from 12th October onwards.
