Actress Nandita Das can rightly be hailed as the true inheritor of the (great) Smita Patil legacy with mind blowing performances in FIRE, EARTH and RAMCHAND PAKISTANI etc.

As we all know, the versatile actress is now directing a film titled, FIRAAQ. The Percept Picture Presentation deals with the riots in Gujarat after the dastardly Godhra act and the carnage that followed. Nandita says that the film talks about how communal disturbances in the society affect on an interpersonal level. The message delivered is very strong and it says that communal violence is not the solution to the problems faced by the society. It preaches communal harmony in a hard-hitting but interesting manner.

The star cast is impressive, with the likes of Naseeruddin Shah, Paresh Rawal, Inamul Haq, Raghuvir Yadav and Sanjay Suri. Tisca Chopra (TAARE ZAMEEN PAR), Deepti Naval and Shahana Goswami are the lead actresses who play prominent roles in the film. Mohammad Samad Khan, a class four student from Hyderabad also essays an important part in the film.

Coming back to our headlines, one of the main leads in FIRAAQ, Inamul Haq, is from Saharanpur, a small town in Western Uttar Pradesh. He plays a character called 'Munna' in the film and is a riot victim. Do not be misled, as Inamul is no novice to films. A short film, THE SEARCH, which Inamul produced, directed and acted in, was chosen for The Berlin-Asia Pacific Film Festival. So, FIRAAQ definitely promises a lot!
